Her stand was an elegant display of marble busts, flags,  a tapestry, black and white photos and some souvenirs. The layout and objects had a sense of formality and tradition yet there was something different about them. The busts were veiled, the flags faded, part of a photograph was ripped out and the tapestry had unusual imagery...giving the exhibit something ghostly and mysterious. Her exhibition The Past is what I remember, is part of her project El fracaso de la memoria (The Failure of Memory), where she explores the various ways in which the past operates in the present and how memory reconstructs and reshapes past events. It was a serendipidous meeting she had with a man in Rome in 2002 which led her to create this exhibition. The man approached her as she was sitting on a bench and told her he was an engineer and was in Rome with the purpose of returning a tall obelisk back to Ethiopia. He translated an Amharic poem about equality and diversity which she wrote down in her notebook. Five months later, looking through her notes, she went online to find that the event in question had already happened in 2008. The 23meters tall obelisk, which had been a war trophy taken by Mussolini in the italo-abyssinian war in 1937, had finally been returned to Aksum. The collective are intrigued by childhood nostalgia and memories. More than anything, the duos inspirations comes from the art of making daily habits even more beautiful and meaningful. The team utilizes art, fashion, lifestyle and design to create objects and ideas.
This Thursday they will be doing a live sound and video art performance at one of the best women's boutiques in New York located at Maryam Nassir Zadeh in the Lower Eastside. Wish we could be there!

Mojito 4 mint leaves 1 lime (for juicing) 1 teaspoon powdered sugar 2 ounces white rum 2 ounces club soda 1 sprig of mint (for garnishing) crushed ice Put the mint leaves into a Collins glass and squeeze the lime juice over them. Add the powdered sugar and then muddle the mint, lime juice and sugar together. Add crushed ice. Stir in the rum and top off with the club soda. Clothing: Smart Chino in Eucalyptus, Sportcoat in Formica, Double-Needle Tee in Formica Pigment, Retro Short in Formica/Porcelain. Belt- vintage.
Bloody Mary 1 1/2 ounces (1 jigger) vodka 1/2 cup tomato juice 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice Worcestershire sauce to taste Tabasco to taste 1 celery stick for garnish 1 lemon wedge for garnish Combine the vodka, the tomato juice, the lemon juice, the Worcestershire sauce, the Tabasco, 1 cup ice cubes, and salt and pepper to taste, shake the mixture well, and strain it into a tall glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish the Bloody Mary with the celery stick and the lemon wedge. Clothing: Crepe Classic Shirt in Tabasco, Tropical Shirt in Tabasco Palm Print, Stock Chino in Palapa
Blue Lagoon Splash of Lemonade Garnish of Cherry Slice of Lemon Splash of Ice 1 part of Vodka 1 part of Blue Curaçao To make the Blue Lagoon, you'll need to add ice to a Highball glass and then add the other ingredients in the following order: Vodka, Blue curaçao and then Lemonade. Once this has been done, you can add your cherry and lemon slice to the glass. Clothing: Waffle Lesure Jacket in Ink, Double-Needle Tank in Sky Pigment, Retro Short in Sky/ Porcelain.
Tequila Sunrise 2 oz tequila 4 oz orange juice 1 oz grenadine Garnish: lime or orange wedge (optional) Pour tequila in a highball glass with ice, and top with orange juice. Stir. Add the grenadine, which will sink to the bottom and then rise up slowly through the drink Garnish with a citrus wedge and cherry. Clothing: Sportcoat in Canary, Tropical Shirt in Ink Palm Print
Pina Colada 3 ½ tablespoons coconut cream 1 (8 ounce) can pineapple chunks or 1 (8 ounce) can pineapple tidbits , in juice 2 small ripe bananas Dump everything (except 2 pineapple chunks or tidbits) in a blender and process until smooth. Add ice and process until ice is crushed. Serve in glasses and garnish with a piece of pineapple and a cherry, if desired. Clothing: Sportcoat in Palapa, Leno Workshirt in Canary, Dad Jean in Laundered Denim
