When I was 11 when I first became obsessed with making minimal type drawings. I recall driving down the road in the back of my parents gold bronco, looking out at the Skeena River I saw these huge red balls gliding across the sky. The red and blue were ebullient and tangible. This experience and many others like it changed me. Slowly I’m learning how to release this art thing I host inside. My practice combines expressive abstract drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. I think of my work as a self-reflexive type thing, through which I try to understand my relationship to the world of forms and phenomena. This oscillation between the subconscious and conscious informs my paintings....as I work to strip things down through studies, reinterpreting color, surface, and structure.
