On a trip to Mexico’s Yucatan region we passed by “Casa del Pastel” (Cake House) on Progreso Beach. It sits at the end of the boardwalk facing the beach, reminiscent of a giant wedding Dress. Each circular layer is surrounded by windows with intricate designs and shapes; palm trees, birds and nautical patterns.
The house was constructed in the 1930’s and is entirely made of materials imported from Italy. The owner went bankrupt as a result. It was sold (although one rumor is that the new owner won it in a card game) and has since withstood all the storms and hurricanes that affected Progreso beach. It has been a vacation home for many years and lately was used to hold some art workshops.
Here are some of the details of this unique beautiful house.
