With fashion week here, we take a look at the work of Loïc Prigent a self proclaimed “fashion nerd” who has been documenting the last minute preparations of fashion shows in his series “Le Jour d’Avant” (The Day Before).
With each episode focusing on a specific designer label, the series takes a look at the last precious days and hours before the runway shows. Prigent’s narratives focus on each designer’s drive, vision and working style, as well as an often overlooked aspect of a designer label: the team executing it. The people making it happen, each with a vital and indispensable role, as well as the ambiance in the ateliers are what make each episode fresh and unique. Prigent has a way to get designers and teams to speak candidly as they go on about their day and portrays them in a caring and honest way.
The 36 hours before a show is where everything comes to the surface, casting emergencies, axing entire looks, conceptualizing new garments and the series documents the hard word and comradery that happens behind the scenes. Teams throwing renegade fashion shows at 1am while delirious (in front of Lagerfeld no less!), eating pizzas while reconstructing sweaters for the 10th time or tearing up as they see their final product on the runway, those are the kinds of details any fashion nerd will want to see.
Featuring: Donatella Versace, Fendi (S.Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld), Diane Von Fustenberg, Nina Ricci, Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang, Sonia Rykiel, Narciso Rodriguez, Lanvin (Alber Elbaz), Isabel Marant and Proenza Schouler.
