From Here and Elsewhere:
If you’re interested in photography but looking for a departure from the photo-conceptualist and “school of” artists that are the usual suspects presented locally, check out the Vice Magazine Show – their first in Vancouver. Presented by The Storyboard Label at Interurban Gallery, the legendary New York-based Canadian magazine, has pulled together a roster of international artists whose works may be described loosely as portraits, still lifes and landscapes but the images presented are so surreal, fantastical and enigmatic, they defy these simple categorizations. Some of the artists on view include Annie Collinge, Charlie Engman, Elizabeth Renstrom and Yumiko Utsu. Having made stops already in Montreal and Toronto, the show has a short run, until August 6 and opens tonight from 7-11.
