Vancouver artist Mark Delong.
The main part of this exhibition revolves around the work of Canadian
artist Phillip Melvin. Melvin (1938 â 2010) was an artist who spent his
life on the periphery of society, travelling across Canada while living in
various cities before settling in Vancouver. He is a self-taught artist
known for his woodcarvings and paintings as well as his poetry. Melvin
is listed in Kobayashi and Birdâs âA Compendium of Canadian Folk
Artistsâ and in on display in the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
Accompanying some of Melvinâs carvings is work by emerging artists
Joey Haley, Jonathan Petersen and Barry Doupe.
In the entrance to the gallery, Vancouver artist Nathalee Paolinelli will
be exhibiting recent paintings and sculpture work. This new work was
done in collaboration with Italian artist Francesco Grassi.
