Opening Reception Friday, January 21 7 – 10:30pm

LES Gallery

1879 Powell St. Vancouver BC

This show of new works by Megan Hepburn and Anders Oinonen explores contrasting yet complementary painting processes. Oinonen starts his works using the form of a face as a framework for building an abstraction. The faces look into the distance, passively suggesting a similarity with the between the viewer and the subject of the painting. Megan Hepburn slowly builds her geometric shapes according to the relationships between works in process, they inform each other and develop according to a shared logic which develops as they are created.

Megan Hepburn won the 2010 Joseph Plaskett Award for Excellence in Painting and was a semi-finalist in the 2010 Royal Bank of Canada Painting Competition. She has shown at Galerie Werner Whitman, Montreal and at Art Mur, Montreal. Megan recently completed her MFA at Concordia University in Montreal.

Anders Oinonen has had solo shows at CTRL Gallery, Houston, Texas and Mehr (Midtown), New York and Greener Pastures Contemporary Art, Toronto. Oinonen has shown in group shows at Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Montréal and Deitch Projects, New York. Anders currently has an artist project featured in Hunter And Cook issue 07.
